How to Train Your Dragon 2 is visually lush- comparisons made between Valka's dragon sanctuary and Avatar's Pandora are fully justified- and the amount of detail afforded the characters, from freckles to scars to hair is truly a credit to the hard work of Dreamworks animators.
Going in to the movie I knew that the character of Stoick was not going to survive to see his son become Chief, which made it even harder to watch scenes which many might have pushed to the back of their minds with so many action packed and fun sequences to feast your eyes on. But it remains the most poignant sequences for me- where we see Stoick and Valka rediscovering their love for one another, and watching the hope in Hiccup's face as he sees his previously incomplete world find its missing piece and falling back into place..
There are so many great moments as I've said; dragon racing (surely a contender for the best fictional sport- look out Quidditch!), the dragon sanctuary and Hiccup and Valka's flight, the Bewilderbeast (both of them are awesome creatures to watch being brought to life) and Toothless' final battle and surprise talent brought to mind another of this years blockbusters **coughGodzillacough**.
I can guarantee that if you loved the first movie THIS one will blow you away.
