Can I first say, what a genuine pleasure it was to see Paul McGann back on-screen as the Doctor!
The "millennium" special did little for Who in the late 90's (it could be argued that it was the final nail-in-the-coffin for the show on screen at the time). BUT it gave us a severely underserved Eighth Doctor, who was whimsical and pleasant and not-entirely sane (but in a dotty sense). Thank the Gallifreyan Gods for Big Finish then. Not only have they continued the adventures of his predecessors, but they gave McGann's Doctor a chance, not only to see what he could do but to shine as the beloved Time Lord. It is only a shame that we never got more screen time with him..
Until now..
Not only does it give us a little more screen time with Eight, it also makes Big Finish CANON TO THW WHONIVERSE. This could provide younger viewers an even bigger story to explore- if they're curious enough (and I can guarantee there are some real gems to be found). It also centres on the fabled Time War between the Doctor's people and the Daleks, which viewers are already familiar with by it's consequences on Christopher Eccleston's Doctor (and subsequent incarnations..).
As well it introduces us to John Hurt's mysterious "War Doctor", a man the Doctor will later be ashamed to have become. Even if he was necessary at the time.
So if you like teasers (and haven't already seen it), do. Because it means that Eight will get the attention he has always richly deserved..
