Finally got around to seeing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and, credit where credits due, the film looks fantastic. All those who say that there is too much CGI in films, clearly haven't seen this yet. The MoCap performed by Andy Serkis, and the animators is magnificent. There is not one point where you don't believe that Caesar isn't right there emoting like every human actor.
And for me personally, the apes and their transition to the dominant species, is the only reason to watch it.
The other half of the story, which shows humanity's struggle to adapt in this new world, is probably the most predictable part of the plot. Of course this is hampered by the fact that, if you've seen the original trilogy, you know where this is going. Hell, the title spells it out for you. The humans in the movie are of little to no interest. It's the same dystopian drama that plays out in other movies and TV shows.
So on one hand, you have a magnificent performance, and on the other you have the same old, same old..
So I suppose it depends what mood you're in.
